The TIP/NUS BINGO Indonesia Business Trip 2006 was initiated by the Indonesia Office of NUS BINGO led by Ms. Vivi Handaya. With her leadership and assistance from Mr. Azhar Risyad Sunaryo (former Chief Corporate Affair Officer of NUS BINGO) and Mr. Ridwan Natakusuma Malaka, they started planning for the trip since Oct 2005. Being all Indonesians, they were eager to show the rest of the NUS population about their country and the prospect in term of business it holds. This trip is recognized as a TIP overseas business trip in which each and every student will need to produce a research report on specific business topics of their choice in the country they are visiting. For this trip, we traveled to 4 cities, 6 universities and 15 companies.

Trip Objectives

The Indonesia Business trip has the same objectives as in the China Business Trip which is as below:

  • i) For the students on the trip to learn about a particular business field through research and interaction during the trip.

  • ii) Develop a solid Indonesia Business research activity to benefit NUS students who want to develop business in Indonesia, or, to bring Indonesia’s products or services to Singapore.

  • iii) Publish a research report outlining information on the different business fields researched by the students during the trip.

  • iv) Form collaboration with Indonesia’s universities in areas of entrepreneurship and technopreneurship.

  • v) Help our students to form their own Indonesia network of friends who also possess entrepreneurial spirit or are entrepreneurs already themselves.

  • vi) Establish overseas BINGO chapters to expand our long-term network.

  • vii) Understand the present Indonesia market and culture.

  • viii) Understand the business and entrepreneurial environment in different parts of Indonesia.

During the trip the students got to network with the best entrepreneurial students in the best universities of Indonesia such as University of Indonesia, Bina Nusantara University, Padjajaran University Institute of Technology Bandung, Gadjah Mada University and Diponegoro University. Collaboration was discussed with the all universities we visited and very positive response had been received. We will be forming few new BINGO chapters in few of these Indonesia universities.

We have formed good friendships with our hosts in Indonesia and have achieved all the objectives we set for this trip. Moreover, just one day after we returned from Indonesia to Singapore the devastating central Java earthquake struck Indonesia. The city of Jogjakarta, where we stayed for the longest period, was hit most hard by this natural disaster. We organized a team of members and canvass for donation for the victims of this disaster. The donation was, in turn, managed by our partner in Jogjakarta Gadjah Mada University and was distributed out fairly and efficiently. This has proved that this BINGO network will also help each other member during time of crisis and not just limited to business.
